Key Takeaways:

  • Sonus expands its Cloud portfolio with its Cloud-optimized DSC SWe, proving that putting SS7 and Diameter in the Cloud is not a myth.
  • Sonus’ Cloud-optimized DSC SWe supports Diameter and SS7 STP on the same virtual platform, allowing for an easy transition from hardware-based signaling equipment to modernized NFV architectures.
  • The DSC SWe is orchestrateable using Dorado Software’s Redcell product suite, permitting service providers to centrally manage and automate NFV-based solutions for Diameter and SS7.

WESTFORD, Mass. – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a global leader in securing Cloud and real-time communications, introduced today a Cloud-optimized version of its Diameter Signaling Controller Software edition (DSC SWe). The product seamlessly integrates with Dorado Software’s Redcell product suite, providing service providers with a real-world solution to manage, activate, and orchestrate the DSC SWe in the Cloud.

The DSC SWe shares a common management and provisioning interface with the hardware-based DSC 8000. With this announcement, service providers have an easy-to-deploy solution that provides a logical path from hardware to virtualization, and now to the Cloud. Like the DSC 8000 and DSC SWe before it, the Cloud-optimized DSC SWe provides signaling for both Diameter and SS7 STP deployments, enabling an easy transition from hardware-based signaling equipment to modernized network function virtualization (NFV) architectures.

As service providers move to architectures with joined network environments of legacy and virtual devices, Sonus continues to work with market-leading orchestration vendors, such as Dorado Software, to supply integrated solutions to customers. The Redcell product suite provides a single, seamless management, automation and service orchestration layer that simplifies network management and accelerates service deployment in these networks. By deploying the Cloud-optimized DSC SWe in the Redcell product suite, service providers have a tested best-of-breed solution for signaling control in the Cloud.

Quotes:

“Extending Sonus’ VNF suite in our partner ecosystem improves our value proposition for service providers, many of whom have deployed or are looking to deploy virtual SBCs or DSCs in their network,” said Chris Simon, vice president, Service Providers and NFV Business Unit, Dorado Software. “Our shared commitment to open standards, like ETSI NFV and OPNFV, and joint involvement with solutions, such as Juniper Networks’ Contrail Cloud platform, Dell EMC and Red Hat’s NFV platform, mean that service providers can deploy joint Sonus/Dorado solutions without fear of broader integration issues in the future.”

“Service providers are looking to the Cloud to capitalize on its elastic nature, flexibility and additional licensing options, but need the proper solutions to do so,” said Bill Welch, senior product manager, Signaling Solutions, Sonus. “Sonus now provides an optimized solution to handle signaling in the Cloud and, with Dorado, delivers a tested orchestration environment to activate and manage these services into the Cloud.”

Other Facts:

  • The Sonus DSC SWe joins the SBC SWe and PSX SWe as products that interoperate with Dorado Software’s Redcell product suite.
  • Sonus’ DSC software is uniquely architected for carrier-grade availability and reliability.
